 | The combination of high-caliber on-snow training and challenging
academics provides an exciting opportunity for a select group of eighth
and ninth grade student-athletes who come to Gould for a special winter
trimester. Participants in the program benefit from daily on-snow
training in competitive alpine, freestyle, nordic, or snowboarding.
Winter Term Students train alongside Gould's competitive on-snow
teams under the direction of Gould’s full time coaches six days a week.
Early and dependable snow at Sunday River ensures that every student
gets important early season training to start the year. Gould’s
academic program is built around prime training time and Winter Term students are supported at every local and regional race and
competition.
Our snowboard, freestyle, and alpine athletes train at nearby
Sunday River Ski Resort. Nordic athletes take advantage of our machine-groomed trails on-campus.
The Winter Term's eighth grade academic program is built to support
a strong eighth grade curriculum. Our science and humanities programs
prepare students for the rigors of high school, while reinforcing the
importance of process in writing, thought formation and lab science.
Our eighth grade student’s math and foreign language programs are
individualized to provide for the most seamless entry and exit from
their Winter Term experience.
Ninth grade winter term students are
integrated into Gould Academy’s challenging college preparatory
program. Each student’s course-load is evaluated entering their ninth
grade year and we do our best to match Gould’s full term programs to
suit each student’s needs. To ensure a smooth transition to Gould
Academy in November and back home in March, the Director of the Winter
Term communicates closely with each student's home school in the fall
and makes a visit, when possible.
Winter Term boarding students reside in a small dorm on campus
dedicated to the program. Outside of the classroom, our Winter Term
students participate in all aspects of Gould Academy life. Daily
Morning Assembly, Winter Carnival, the Snow Ball and Tuesday night
Formal Dinner ensure that each of our Winter Term students quickly becomes
a part of a very strong community.
Winter Term Director, Lauren Simard, is the coordinator of all
academic and residential aspects of the Winter Term Program. She and
her husband and children live in Vogt House year-round.
Need based financial aid is available. Because space is limited, we
urge you to submit all application materials by February 15. After the
application deadline, applications are evaluated on a rolling basis. If
you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact us
at 207-824-7777. Or, you may
