Gould Academy WorldQuest and Academic Quiz Team Qualifies for National Championship

Most of the worldquest academic quiz bowl team poses together at Gould after a competition

Gould’s WorldQuest and Academic Quiz Team placed in the top ten percent at this year’s Asynchronous 30-20-10 National Tournament run by LIQBA (Long Island Quiz Bowl Alliance), a nationwide competition involving more than 750 schools from across the country, and received an invitation to compete at their National Championships at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey as part of the East Regional competition.

While the team will not be able to attend the National Championships due to a conflict with Gould’s Commencement, the invitation itself represents a tremendous accomplishment and recognition of the students’ hard work, intellectual curiosity, and dedication throughout the season.

This invitation marks the team’s second National Championship qualification this year, following Gould’s earlier qualification for the Small School National Championship Tournament (SSNCT), hosted by the NAQT (National Academic Quiz Tournaments), held in Chicago earlier this spring.

Tournaments demand not only knowledge across history, geography, literature, science, current events, and the arts, but also collaboration, quick thinking, and a genuine love of learning. It has been wonderful to watch these students grow as thinkers, teammates, and scholars. - Adam Leff

The national championship series will be hosted at four regional sites around the country, with the winning team from each site advancing to the national finals in Birmingham, Alabama.

Director of Civic Engagement and World Languages Department Chair Adam Leff, also the team’s faculty advisor, shared how proud and impressed he was by the students who participated in this year’s competitions.

“Academic quiz tournaments demand not only knowledge across history, geography, literature, science, current events, and the arts, but also collaboration, quick thinking, and a genuine love of learning,” said Adam. “It has been wonderful to watch these students grow as thinkers, teammates, and scholars. My hope is that those graduating this spring will continue to pursue opportunities for academic competition, curiosity, and global engagement at the collegiate level and beyond. The gift of curiosity will carry them far.”
