Starting the Year Together at Convocation

Gould Academy

The school year began with our annual Convocation in Bingham Auditorium, bringing the Gould community together, students, faculty and families, to look ahead to what's to come and consider how each person can make a difference.

The celebration started outside on campus as students lined up by class in front of Hanscom Hall to form a parade of classes as the walked to Bingham Hall. Welcoming our newest students, the Class of 2030 marched together for the very first time as they made their way into the auditorium. Inside, Music Director Matthew Slipp welcomed everyone with live piano music, to set a celebratory tone for the ceremony.

Maggie Davis opened Convocation with a tribute to the Wabanaki Confederacy and a reminder to honor and appreciate the land our community calls home. Head of School Tao Smith welcomed students and families back to campus and encouraged students to lean on the four pillars of the mission of Gould, Curiosity, Kindness, Creativity and Courage as they move through the school year.

Student Leaders Address the Community

Tao was followed by seniors Caroline and Griffin, who shared their experiences and advice with new and returning students. Caroline reminded us, “The way we treat others comes at no personal cost. You can all choose at any moment the kind of impact you want to leave  the individuals around you.”

Griffin added his own warm welcome and encouragement, saying, “As we start this year, I want to welcome you to Gould, to new opportunities, adventures, friendships, and challenges. To the new students, you are now part of a really special community, and one I’m proud to be a part of. I hope Gould becomes for you what it has become for me, a place that pushes you, supports you, and helps you become the best version of yourself.”

Griffin kicks of the year with an inspirational message.

I hope Gould becomes for you what it has become for me, a place that pushes you, supports you, and helps you become the best version of yourself. Griffin ’27

Together, Caroline and Griffin's words offered a reminder that each of us has a role in shaping the year ahead and the community we share.
