Supporting Student Health and Wellness

Gould's Health Center team of Nurses and counselors

Gould provides a secure, nurturing environment where students can grow confidently and safely. Student wellness is a top priority here, and that care extends from classrooms and dorms to the playing fields and trails, to the Health Center at the heart of campus.

Registered Nurse and Director of Health Services Aimee Tierno recently joined the Gould community, bringing 25 years of experience in emergency medicine, surgery, and orthopedics. She’s joined this year by Bekah Kropp, another registered nurse who is currently working toward becoming a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Together with the rest of the Health Center team, their professionalism and expertise keep Gould’s students safe and well around the clock. They are a remarkable resource for Gould families.

Aimee understands that this partnership with students and families means building trust and supporting students proactively, not just when they aren’t feeling well.

“I hope that all students feel a strong sense of trust, comfort, and accessibility when it comes to the health center,” says Aimee. “I want them to view it not just as a place to go when they’re unwell, but as a supportive resource for their overall well-being—physical, mental, and emotional. I hope the Health Center can be a space where students feel seen and heard, and that openness and self-advocacy stay with them beyond Gould.”

In an effort to be both transparent and approachable, Aimee spoke to students during the first week of classes at assembly, with the goal of ensuring everyone knows who to contact in any situation that comes up. Here are a few of the “Health Center Quick Facts” she shared. We hope it serves as a useful reference and a reminder of the strong network of care available to every Gould student.

  • After 7 p.m., if you’re unwell, speak with the faculty member on duty, who will help you contact the nurse.
