Ken Remsen is a 1967 graduate of Gould. He has been involved with Gould in a number of ways over the years. He has served on the alumni board from 1983 – 1989 (president 1987 – 1989) and from 2013 – 2019. He served as an alumni representative on the Board of Trustees from 1984 – 1990 and from 2014 – 2017. He was elected as a term trustee in 2019. Ken served as co-chair of the Head of School Search Committee in 2019.

Ken has helped organize many of his class reunions. He was honored as Alumnus of the Year in 2007 and received the Michael Stowell Volunteer Award in 2017. He has also served as the chairman of the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee from 2015 – 2022. 

Ken is a 1971 graduate of Middlebury College with a B.A. in economics. After college he returned to Bethel and was the head race coach at Sunday River for the next three winters. He was certified as a PSIA Level III instructor in 1973. 

Ken then received a M.Ed. from the University of Maine in 1977. His career was spent in the field of education. He was an elementary physical educator, an elementary principal, worked as an adjunct instructor at the University of Maine, and worked for the Vermont Agency of Education monitoring grants and providing professional development training to teachers and principals. In addition he served as a member of the Chittenden East Supervisory Union school board for six years. He has also coached at levels from youth sports to Division I college sports and spent many summers as a camp counselor at both Keewaydin Temagami and Camp Winona.

Ken retired in December 2014. He has always been active and continues to stay active, though at a much slower pace. He has run 16 marathons, participated in a supported cross country bike ride, skied in two World Masters Championships in cross country skiing, gone backcountry skiing in British Columbia and participated in numerous alumni runs at Gould. 

Ken lives in Vergennes, Vermont with his wife Nancy and has two sons and four grandchildren. He also volunteers with Girls on the Run, Habitat for Humanity and has participated in two mission trips to Costa Rica to build houses.
