Gregory S. Young P’19

Ithaca College
Founder & Chairman, BeFoundation
Owner, Peachwave Frozen Yogurt, LLC
Redding, CT
Greg Young is a devoted father and husband, philanthropist, and business owner. A lifelong Connecticut resident, Greg dedicates his life to his family and making Connecticut a better place for all children.  Greg has been on the Gould Academy Board of Trustees since May of 2018. His daughter, Aerin is a graduate of the class of 2019. Greg has been a community member of western  Maine since the 1960’s and is enjoying his 55th year skiing at Sunday River.

Greg’s philanthropic focus is on improving children’s lives in Connecticut through BeFoundation, the family foundation he founded in 2012. BeFoundation is devoted to improving the educational outcomes of underserved students and the vitality of their communities. Greg has extended the reach of his philanthropy with SpreadMusicNow, a nonprofit he co-founded with the executive director of BeFoundation.

Greg and his wife Cathy have restored Maple Hill Farm in Redding to a working community farm and home for their five children. The farm is now making maple syrup, honey, a delicious hot pepper flake and growing a variety of produce. Greg also converted a barn to a performing arts space and makes the space available as a recording studio and intimate venue for fundraisers and musical performances. An avid drummer, Greg enjoys taking advantage of the drum kit at the Barn at Maple Hill Farm as often as he can.

Greg got his start in the commodities business shortly after graduating from Ithaca College and became a managing partner of the commodities giant Glencore Ltd, where he worked for 25 years in Stamford, CT. Giving back was always on his mind while at Glencore and in 2012 following a successful IPO Greg founded BeFoundation.  Greg also now owns and operates Peachwave Frozen Yogurt, which holds the rights to branding and 90+ patented flavors with 50+ stores using Peachwave’s brand and dairy products.

Greg recently accepted a job at Jervois Global where he is busy creating an ethical western supply chain for critical minerals used in electrification of the modern economy. The growth rate of the western world’s electric vehicles market is being jeopardized by the lack of ethically supplied Cobalt and Nickel.
