Paw Prints: Emerson Sistare

Emerson Sistare is in his first year but has already taken on many roles at Gould. He is a history teacher, head coach of the basketball team, and the head of Holden Hall. One senior-level elective he teaches is a course on The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien. In his own words, the epic “enables a rich study of concepts as wide-ranging as nationalism, ecology, industrialism, feminism, and theology.”
“The community [at Gould] is so excited to be here, to work and live here, and most importantly, to have fun in this place. From colleagues to students, there is a sense of down-to-earth sincerity that pervades the spaces and makes them so warm and welcoming. The celebration of the individual at Gould enriches this community by allowing our students and our faculty to bring their passions to the fore and feel supported by all. It is a wonderful place to work, one where you, and I hope our students, more than any others, feel empowered to be yourself and to love yourself for who you are.” - Emerson Sistare

An interesting fact about Emerson is that he actually has two first names. His father picked Emerson for poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, while his mother chose Colin referencing The Secret Garden.

Emerson is captivating and principled, and we're so grateful that he chose to call Gould home. While we understand that all that is Gould does not glitter, we're glad that Emerson is here to remind us that “not all those who wander are lost.”
