Student Leadership

Leading by Example and Supporting the Community
Student leaders play a vital role in shaping life at Gould. They help build trust in the dorms, organize events and traditions, and ensure all voices are heard. Leadership here is active and community-focused—students take on real responsibility and support one another in meaningful ways.
Prefects are elected by their peers and faculty to support residential life in each dorm, including dedicated day student prefects. They serve as Orientation trip leaders for incoming students, welcome families to campus on registration days, and are assigned to spaces during study hall to be sure there is a strong student presence across campus.
With regular workshops and training, leadership at Gould is collaborative, and the students who take on these roles help create a culture where everyone feels supported.

Notch Competitions
Prefects take the lead in organizing Gould’s Notch competitions—spirited events that bring together advisory groups for everything from relay races and trivia battles to winter carnival events. These friendly contests are a highlight of campus life, full of laughter, camaraderie, and just the right amount of rivalry.

Blue Key
Gould’s Blue Key student-ambassadors play a key role in welcoming families and alumni to campus. From giving tours to supporting major events, these student leaders represent Gould with poise and warmth and are well-versed in community life.
Weekend Activities
Prefects help shape the weekend schedule by collecting input from peers and working with faculty to plan events that reflect student interests. Whether it’s a trip to Portland’s Old Port, an afternoon at a trampoline park, a hike in the mountains, or a cozy movie night and campfire at the yurt, prefects make sure there’s something fun and engaging for everyone each weekend.
