Building a Lifelong Appreciation for the Outdoors

Outing Club at Gould is a long-standing outdoor tradition, and continues to evolve each season. Offered as a co-curricular activity in the fall and spring, the club is led by experienced and knowledgeable faculty who know the mountains of Western Maine and the White Mountain National Forest. Students hike local peaks like Caribou Mountain, scramble up to the panoramic ledges at Table Rock, or enjoy a moment of zen paddling a quiet stretch of the Androscoggin River. One day, they could be rock climbing on Square Ledge in Pinkham Notch, the next bandit camping under the stars on an overnight camping trip.

At its core, Outing Club is about getting outside—moving through the landscape with a spirit of curiosity and respect. Giving back is a major component of the club, helping local conservation nonprofits like Inland Woods + Trails with trail maintenance. Whether it’s an afternoon saunter or a challenging summit, the goal is always the same: to explore the outdoors with confidence, humility, and joy.
