  • Boys' Soccer

There are many opportunities to play boys’ soccer at Gould Academy thanks to a varsity team and two junior varsity teams.

As one of the top boarding school soccer programs in New England, our student-athletes compete among a number of New England schools, including New Hampton School, Tilton School, Hebron Academy, and Hyde School.

Our state-of-the-art Farnsworth Field House – with open space for drills, several athletic rooms, and weight room – makes training for soccer available during every season. With four fields located directly on campus, home games are fun events.

Those team members who aspire to play in college have the benefit of working directly with their coaches, as well as the Athletic Director and College Counseling office, to map out a successful off-season training and playing schedule.
  • Coed Soccer

  • Cross Country Running

Gould’s Cross Country Team is a closely coached co-ed, varsity, and junior varsity program, comprised of 20-30 athletes of all abilities, including novice runners and advanced competitors who plan to contend in college.

The Boys’ Varsity Cross Country Team has podiumed for many years at the New England Cross Country Championships, winning the competition in both 2013 and 2016 and the Girls’ Cross Country Team placing 6th in 2016.

Our teams are highly competitive having also claimed the Maine Independent School Championship (MAISAD) and the D4 New England Prep School Cross Country Championship in recent years.
  • Equestrian

Our equestrian team is a unique program for both beginning and advanced riders.

Two seasons, fall and spring, offer opportunities for riders to learn the time-honored art of Dressage while making meaningful connections with great horses and a passionate instructor.

Students ride five days a week thanks to Gould Academy’s partnership with Deepwood Farm and instructor Dianne Ward.
In both seasons, participants improve their riding skills while learning about grooming, equipment, saddling, stable safety, and how to care for and feed the horses. Student riders also experience frequent trail rides to practice the skills learned in the ring, in a beautiful natural setting.
Student-rider skills are put to the test during two shows each term, competing against riders of a variety of ages, experiences, and abilities. Our student riders generally experience strong results at the shows and tremendous growth throughout the season.
  • Field Hockey

The Gould Field Hockey Team competes within the Maine Association of Independent Athletic Directors (MAISAD) league.

Team Members train on their skills development and defensive and offense plays, using the Schroy Turf Field. Twice a week, players work on conditioning, either by lifting weights in the Farnsworth Field House weight room or by running on our on-campus Pine Hill cross country trail system.

Those team members who hope to train and play both in the off-season and later in college, work closely with coaches, our Athletic Director, and College Counseling, to put together a plan.
  • Girls' Soccer

The philosophy of the Gould Girls’ Soccer Program is simple: “Play Hard and Have Fun!”  This mindset, when practiced by talented players under the leadership of knowledgeable coaches, has led to the development of excellent student-athletes who love the game.
  • Golf

The Gould Academy Golf team is a competitive program that consistently vies for the MAISAD Championship every year. The format is match play with a final stroke play championship.

Our co-ed team is made up of players who compete around the country and has included past Maine State Junior Amateur Champions. Thanks to our in-town location, the team practices and plays at the award-winning Bethel Inn Golf Course located just a short walk up the street from campus. Players on the team also have an opportunity to work with pros from the Bethel Inn Golf School.

Our golf season takes place amidst spectacular fall foliage, but there are many opportunities to play in the spring and on the weekends throughout both seasons.
  • High Performance Conditioning

  • Mountain Biking

The Gould Mountain Biking and Enduro MTB Team program is highly developed and premier among boarding schools in New England.  The experienced coaching, the depth of talented athletes, and the overall size of our team have all contributed to the success in recent years. This co-ed team now competes in the Northern New England High School Mountain Bike Race Series, and has earned the NEPSAC championships title several times. The Enduro MTB Team competes in the Maxxis Eastern States Cup events.
  • Skateboarding

Established in 1998, Gould Academy has the longest running skateboard program of any independent school.

We have a varsity skateboard team, a series of skateboard competitions, a 4,000-square-foot indoor skatepark, and a 9,000-square-foot outdoor concrete skate park. Skateboarding is a sport and lifelong passion.

At Gould, we welcome all skateboarders. You can skate…every day. Students can ride during free time and they can join our team. We provide a complete program for intermediate and advanced riders.

At Gould, students make connections between the way they learn on their board and in the classroom. Gould students can take their riding as far as their ability allows.
