Covid update: Mask and testing optional

As promised, this past Monday Gould’s COVID strategy moved to mask optional and test optional based on the current CDC county categorization. This important milestone marked a transition as our community learns to live with a terrible disease that appears will be with us for a long while.
Future changes will be based on our COVID Community Level. Oxford County is currently designated as “Low Transmission” which means indoor and outdoor masking is optional. Regardless of the level of community spread, indoor masking will continue for assemblies, inside the health services building, for individuals who fall into a higher risk category as described by the CDC, and for individuals who have been designated as a close contact to a person who has tested positive for COVID. Unvaccinated individuals will not be required to mask indoors provided they are participating in pooled testing. Pooled testing will be optional for all Gould community members.

The school’s goal continues to be transparent and provide comprehensive information to our community so individuals may make informed decisions about their own mask use and daily activities.

As a reminder, when someone tests positive at Gould, all close contacts will be notified. Close contacts may remain on campus, but are asked to wear a mask, receive negative antigen test(s) results as needed, and monitor their symptoms closely. The individual that tests positive for COVID is required to remain off campus for 5 days and may return to campus only after testing negative. When that individual does return, they must wear a mask at all times and may not eat in the dining hall for another 5 days.

Moving forward please refer to the COVID Dashboard on Gould’s website for further information. This will be updated as needed and can be a resource to understand the case counts on campus.

Pooled testing will remain available on Tuesdays from 8AM - 12PM in the Health Center and all students and employees are encouraged to participate if they have not had COVID in the last 90 days.

A huge thank you to the Health Center staff and all members of the community for their continued hard work and diligence as we seek to keep everyone healthy.
