Four Point: Ninth Graders Explore Spain and the Art of Olive Oil Production

Founded in 1907, Molino Alfonso has been crafting high-quality extra virgin olive oil for over a century. Nestled between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees in northeastern Spain, the mill is dedicated to producing olive oil with the prestigious Bajo Aragón Denomination of Origin. The students had the opportunity to tour the facility, learning about the careful process of harvesting, pressing, and bottling olive oil from centuries-old trees.
In addition to seeing the production firsthand, the group participated in a tasting workshop, where they sampled different varieties of olive oil and discovered the unique flavors that come from the region’s distinct climate and soil. They also learned about Molino Alfonso’s Oleoturismo initiative, which invites visitors to experience olive oil production as a form of cultural tourism.
Beyond the educational aspect, students are embracing the hands-on, experiential learning that defines the Four Point program. From connecting with local artisans to exploring Spain’s culinary traditions, they are gaining a deeper understanding of the country while stepping outside their comfort zones.
