Eliza Tyson ’25 Honored with Bonnie Pooley Earth Day Award
Eliza Tyson ’25 is recognized for her leadership and environmental advocacy with the 2025 Bonnie Pooley Earth Day Award. The award was presented during an all-school assembly by Sara Shifrin ’88, P’19, ’23, Associate Head of School for Strategy and Talent, with former faculty member and award namesake Bonnie Pooley P’81 in attendance.
Shifrin praised Eliza’s commitment to sustainability and community, noting, “From the moment Eliza arrived at Gould, she didn’t wait for permission to lead. She stepped into the circle and brought others with her kindness, creativity, and sense of shared purpose.” Eliza has played a key role in advancing Gould Goes Green, the school’s sustainability initiative, showing initiative and inspiring others to get involved.
The Bonnie Pooley Earth Day Award honors students who demonstrate a deep commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability—values that Pooley has championed throughout her life. A dedicated environmentalist, Pooley served Gould for 35 years and has volunteered for more than three decades with the Mahoosuc Land Trust, where she is a founding board member.
Eliza’s leadership and steady voice have left a lasting impact on the Gould community. Her recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of student-driven change and the power of leading with courage, creativity, and care for the natural world. She will continue her education next year at the University of Denver.
