Mountain Biking, Road Cycling, & Gravel Racing (Spring)
2023 - 2024Head Coach: Derek TreadwellNEW for spring 2022 we will be including spring Mountain Biking and Enduro. As we aspire towards junior development year-round programming, we are excited to bring Spring MTB and Enduro training and racing to Gould. This will provide a tremendous opportunity for our dirt rippers. Our riders will be competing in various mountain bike events, including events in the Eastern States Cup Enduro series, 12-hours of Port Jervis, and the Great Glen Summer MTB series. We also understand that racing isn’t everything, we are dedicated to growing our community, the spring MTB team isn’t afraid to grab rakes and shovels. Trail building is an important part of the spring program.
Our competitive team is built around a year-road training format. Once spring hits, our riders brave the New England spring weather and are some of the first to hit the gravel and tarmac. Training often takes riders in and around national and state parks. Students train in small groups to develop their riding and racing skills on outstanding flat and mountainous terrain.
The program also boasts a 1,000 square foot dedicated bike storage, repair and training facility on campus.
Gould Academy races against a strong field of schools, including Phillips Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy, Deerfield Academy, Holderness School, Proctor Academy, Burke Mountain School, and Kimball Union Academy. In addition to tarmac the team also competes in several of the larger regional Gravel Events, including Rasputitsa and The Muddy Onion.
Gould cyclists have gone on to race at top schools like Bates, Bowdoin, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Lees McRae, and the University of Vermont.
