Gould Mountain Biking Takes Second Place at New England Championships, First in Eastern Division

The Gould Mountain Bike team had an exceptional season this fall, finishing in second place overall last week at the Northern New England Mountain Bike (NNEMTB) Championships and first place in the Eastern Division. Thirty-two teams from three divisions and almost 500 racers competed on the challenging, singletrack-heavy course at Holderness School. Lucie Jezkova ’25 was the top Junior Girl racer in the league, a fantastic feat considering she is in her first season. Parker Nellis ’25 took the second spot for Junior Boys.

An Undefeated Mountain Biking Season in the Eastern Division for Gould

“It’s remarkable to see what Lucie has done this season with so little experience,” says Director of the Mountain Biking Program Dereck “Tread” Treadwell. “Her potential is unlimited.” Tread went on to talk about Parker Nellis. “Parker had a strong performance at the championships, and it was great to see him recognized as the second-place Junior Boys’ rider. He trained very hard this past summer and it’s really paying off. He’s going to be someone to watch in New England next season.”

After a pile-up at the start of the Boys’ A race, Ellis Slover ’24 deftly navigated through the pack to finish on the podium in third place. Parker Nellis ’25 raced exceptionally well in the top three for most of the race to finish fourth overall, just behind his teammate. Veteran racer Parker Welch ’24, in his last Gould MTB race, finished 22nd in a solid field.

In the Girls’ A race, the huskies left their mark by putting three riders in the top ten. Lucie Jezkova led the way with a fifth-place finish, with Reese Furneaux ’25 in ninth and Hannah Grohman ’24 in the tenth-place spot.

In Boys’ B action, James Crowley ’25 overcame several technical issues to finish 20th, and Sam Krizo ’25 finished 33rd out of 84 riders.

Evelyn Burnes ’26 set the tone early in the day with an impressive second-place finish in Girls’ C, while Ezra Tsapis ’27 finished 15th in the field of 128 for the boys. Dan Bauer ’28 and Brooks Oyler ’26 also produced strong finishes on the challenging track.

The points were totaled as the sun set over New Hampshire. Gould finished with 456 points, securing a second-place team title by a margin of only 21 points to St. Johns Prep, who finished in first place with 477.
