Lambert ’24 Qualifies for U16 Nationals

Gould tenth-grader Charlotte Lambert from Bethel, Maine qualified for the U16 Nationals at Sugarloaf after an exceptional season and showing at the U16 Eastern Championships in Burke, VT. Nationals are being held from April 2–6 where Charlotte will compete in Super G (SG), Giant Slalom (GS), Slalom (SL), Skills Quest, and Dual Panel Slalom.
Gould U16 Coach Cathy Fisher P’18 describes Charlotte as a hardworking, dedicated athlete who is focused on her process.

“She has made steady, incremental improvements over the course of the season and is poised to have peak performances on the national stage,” says Fisher. “She has a lot more ‘in the tank’ and we are so excited to support her at the next level!”

Charlotte, who collected many medals and spent a lot of time on podiums this season, won three of the five Eastern Championship qualifiers and placed second and third in the other two races.

“My long-term goal coming into the season was just to place top five in each race and go to Easterns, and then mid-season we changed it up and made my goal to go to Nationals,” says Charlotte. “My coaches really kept me focused on my own progress, and not just result-based goals.”

Her focus was on her own skiing, but the results followed.

At the Eastern Championships, Charlotte put up strong results finishing 6th in SL and 4th in GS. It became clear that she could compete on a bigger stage as she raced amongst 85 of the top U16 athletes from Maine to North Carolina. She finished the U16 Eastern Champs ranked sixth overall in the region. The top 16 go to Nationals.

“She showed that the speed is there, and that was very exciting for all of us,” says Head U16 Coach Kurt Niiler. “Charlotte is a well-rounded skier and strong in all the disciplines. She's very familiar with the race hill at Sugarloaf and is poised to make a statement!”

Congratulations, Charlotte and coaches, and good luck at Nationals!
