Meaningful Service Activities Related to Food Justice and Peace
“This day serves as a commemoration of Dr. King's tireless efforts in the fight against racial inequality in his advocacy for justice, equality, and peace, so on Martin Luther King Day, we come together to celebrate the principles of unity, service, and social justice that Dr. King championed throughout his life. It is not just a day off but rather a day on. It's a day to engage in meaningful service activities that contribute to the betterment of society.”
Yesterday, on Martin Luther King Day, students engaged in acts of service around food justice at the Good Shepherd Food Bank, Preble Street, the Bethel Area Food Pantry, the Alan Day Community Garden, and by baking “Lasagnas of Love” for the food insecure. Rugrats Instructors and Ski Patrollers spent the afternoon guiding refugee students from The Root Cellar in Lewiston at Mt Abram. Eighth- and ninth-graders focused on topics on global conflict and peace with the help of The Marshall Legacy Institute. Eleventh- and twelfth-graders traveled to engage in a day of food justice programming at Bates College. Today, the work continues, but thank you to Mr. Leff, the Gould faculty, and our community partners for a remarkable and transformative day!
