Tuesday Night Rail Jam - Shred for Sleds
This past Tuesday night, the Gould community gathered on the upper field after a formal dinner to witness the spectacle and glory of a rail jam. Over thirty freeskiers, snowboarders (and even a couple of Nordic and alpine athletes) participated in the contest, with all entry fees benefitting the local Mahoosuc Kids Association in the form of the highly coveted Zipfy Sleds.
The event was a blast and a bonding opportunity for the community, from spectators to participants. Floodlights and bonfires lit the stage for sensational high-flying and sometimes comical aerials. Prizes ranged from cheeseballs to retro Gould jerseys to bragging rights.
Kudos to Gould student leader Gavin O'Connell ’24 and Director of Student Wellbeing and Advising Katie Stack for organizing the event and bringing everyone together for some shared joy with a higher purpose.
The evening was a friendly competition where everyone came out on top, but specifically, congrats to eleventh-graders Max Hanson, Marcus Littel, and Olivia Stracuzzi for being the top three on the podium, respectively. (Pictured top right)
“It was such a fun night with everyone out here competing, skiers, snowboarders, boys and girls,” says Max Hanson. “Everyone was sending it. It was so much fun.”

UPDATE: Katie Stack reports that the Rail Jam raised almost $400 for MKA, and seven Zipfy sleds were delivered to the children there. The day of the delivery, MKA children and Gould students had a blast taking the sleds out on their hill to break them in. See photos at the top!
