The Maine Event - Rollerskiing Races at Black Mountain

Over the weekend, the Gould Nordic team competed at The Maine Event XCX, a NENSA Rollerski Race that was held at Black Mountain of Maine this year. Gould had a spectacular showing on the podiums. Here’s a breakdown from Nordic and Biathlon Program Director Ben Kamilewicz ’95:
Battling against Colby, Bates, Bowdoin, and GMVS Teams this weekend, the Gould Huskies showed their grit and determination in the Maine Event, taking the most podiums of any team there. In the Qualifier Round, Nylas Scott ’24 finished 1st in the open road, with teammates Hannah Grohman ’24, Reese Furneaux ’25, and Lillie Salgado ’24 finishing 10th, 11th, and 13th, respectively—all making it to the single elimination rounds. Junior Women Evelyn Burnes ’26 and Mallory Raymond ’27 finished 4th and 5th, making it into the Junior rounds.

The open Men's category was dominated by Gould, with alum Eli Shifrin ’23 taking first in the qualifier round, closely followed by Ellis Slover ’24 in 2nd, Lucas Barstow ’25 in 5th, James Crowley ’25 in 8th, and Oliver Tai ’25 in 10th. In the finals, Nyla Scott finished 3rd overall in the open women, Reese Furneaux finished 4th overall in open women and was the number one junior girl, with Hannah Grohman placing 2nd. In the Open Men category, Ellis Slover edged out Lucas Bastow for 1st, with Lucas finishing a strong 2nd. It was a great day to be a Husky!
